What's the story behind the Savant Academy logo?

Savant Academy logo drawn by Faith Butterfield

Faith Butterfield Faith Butterfield drew the Savant Academy logo in December 2004, around the time of her eighth birthday.

Faith began drawing at the age of 3 ½, shortly after her diagnosis with autism. Although she was obsessed with pen and paper from the outset, for years Faith rarely completed a drawing at all. Instead, Faith would go through hundreds of blank pages in a single session, making just one or two lines on each page. Through this process, Faith taught herself depth perception and various drafting techniques, often borrowing and combining themes from cartoons and video games.

Faith's whimsical talent began to blossom in the last two years, as she began to create original characters and storyboards. Today, Faith executes complex drawings with just a few fluent strokes. The above drawing, which measures about 12cm (5 inches) tall, was conceived and finished in less than three minutes.

Savant Academy is seeking funding and volunteer help in Los Angeles to exhibit work by Faith Butterfield and other artists with autism in 2006.
